27 April 2003:
New MRML version proposal (version 2.0)^
As a significant asset for CBIR benchmarking, MRML,the Multimedia Retrieval Markup Language is defined as a communication protocol between the CBIR client and server. Building on the experience of using an early version, we are happy to announce the release of a new specification. Implementation should come soon...

5 April 2003:
Report on the Benchathlon session at Internet Imaging IV^
This year again, a session for discussing the advances made for the Benchathlon has been held during the SPIE EI Internet Imaging Conference. Read the report in the event section.

24 November 2002:
The Benchathlon site now features a Technical section^
In order to provide researchers (and IR newcomers) with accurate and relevant information, the Benchathlon site now comprises a Technical section. The aim is to create or point to tutorial, lecture notes or overviews of technical aspect in CBIR evaluation.

15 October 2002:
Report of evaluation of Web based CBIR engines^
After on the reports JTAP 039 and 054, a MSc thesis is looking at the performance of Web based CBIR engines. See Suk Ching Tsang. The Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Image Retrieval Engines on the World Wide Web , Master's thesis Department of Information Science, City University, London, UK, 2002.

11 October 2002:
Benchathlon session at Internet Imaging IV^
One Benchathlon concrete events is a special session at the EI Internet Imaging Conference SPIE Electronics Imaging Logo
Acceptance of abstracts have been announced. Authors are requested to submit their final manuscript by October 28th. The final program should be announced soon.

7 May 2002:
Benchathlon image collections browsable via the GIFT^
The Benchathlon Network aims at promoting resources and recommendations for CBIR benchmarking. The setup of image collections is underway. For now, mostly one large collections has been setup by Giordano Beretta. It is copied within our site and is browsable through the GIFT (GNU Image Finding Tool) from this page.

30 April 2002:
The Benchathlon site has been renewed^
In order to better promote our initiative, the Benchathlon site has changed design. In case you wish to consult the previous site, pages have been kept here.

20 March 2002:
Internet Imaging IV call for paper includes a Benchathlon section^
One Benchathlon concrete events is a special session at the EI Internet Imaging Conference SPIE Electronics Imaging Logo
The EI call for paper for Internet Imaging IV (EI20) 2003 explicitly includes a section for the Benchathlon.
First deadline: June 10th, 2002.

This year (2002) the Internet Imaging conference has hosted the Benchathlon within a special session. Read the conference report in our Events section.
